The Distinguished Alumni Award is granted to outstanding SHRS alumni who have distinguished themselves through their academic, professional and humanitarian accomplishments. Their commitment to professional excellence and dedication to serving their communities through scholarship, education and advocacy exemplify the core values of SHRS.
Dr. Mohamed Hagahmed (Emergency Medicine, BS '09)

BS – University of Pittsburgh, Emergency Medicine, 2009
MD – Drexel University, Emergency Medicine

Upon his graduation from Pitt in 2009, Dr. Mohamed Hagahmed began working for Pittsburgh EMS as a paramedic. Following several years of service to the city, he attended medical school and completed his emergency medicine residency with UPMC. While completing his residency, Hagahmed used his experience to contribute to the success of SHRS’ Emergency Medicine program by volunteering his expertise as a lecturer, skill examiner and preceptor. He is now an emergency physician at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Throughout his career, he has distinguished himself through his tireless compassion and his contributions to education of future generations of health care providers. Hagahmed is committed to improving diversity among health care providers at all levels as well as improving access to health care for all.
